Hans Zimmer has been named the sole composer for the third season of HBO’s Euphoria, replacing the series’ previous musical identity, Labrinth. While earlier announcements indicated that the two would collaborate on the score, Rolling Stone has confirmed that Zimmer now holds the sole composer credit for the upcoming eight episodes.

The shift in musical direction comes as the series prepares for a significant narrative transition. The third season features a five-year time jump, moving the characters beyond their high school years to confront adult issues.

The Departure of Labrinth

Labrinth, the British singer and songwriter, previously defined the sound of Euphoria with ethereal vocals and an original score that earned him an Emmy Award. However, he will not feature in the new season.

The split became public on March 12, 2026, when Labrinth posted on social media stating, I’m done with this industry. Fuck Columbia. Double fuck Euphoria. I’m out. Thank you and goodnight.

Creator and executive producer Sam Levinson has remained tight-lipped regarding the specific reasons for the split. When asked by Rolling Stone to explain the situation, Levinson responded, I don’t know, though he acknowledged Labrinth as an incredible collaborator who built the foundation of the show’s sound.

Hans Zimmer’s New Direction

Hans Zimmer, a two-time Academy Award winner, is bringing a different sonic palette to the series. For Season 3, Zimmer has created a lush, Western-inspired score.

Levinson attributed the decision to bring Zimmer on board to the influence of Zimmer’s previous scores on his visual vision. Levinson noted that each character’s storyline in Euphoria functions like its own film, making Zimmer’s cinematic expertise a fit for the production.

Zimmer’s involvement was initially announced in the summer of 2025. At that time, it was positioned as a partnership where Zimmer would team up with Labrinth. Zimmer had previously stated that Season 3 was written while Levinson listened to scores from True Romance and Interstellar.

Production Context and Timeline

Production for the third season began in April 2025. The start of filming followed a period of delays caused by cast changes and script rewrites. This period also followed the passing of actor Angus Cloud, who played the character Fezco.

The new season is expected to premiere in 2026. The narrative shift to a more mature chapter of the characters’ lives coincides with the transition to Zimmer’s orchestral and electronic-influenced style.

Zimmer is widely recognized for his work integrating electronic music with traditional orchestral arrangements. His extensive career includes scores for Dune, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar.

Beyond his composing work, Zimmer serves as the head of the film music division at DreamWorks Animation and DreamWorks Pictures and operates through his company, Remote Control Productions.
