Jennifer Zamparelli is a familiar face on Irish television, captivating audiences with her wit and style on Dancing with the Stars (DWTS). But beyond the glittering gowns and iconic staircase, lies a career built on resilience, hard work, and a willingness to embrace diverse opportunities. From a challenging stint on The Apprentice to a thriving career in Irish entertainment, Zamparelli reflects on her journey, her current projects, and what makes her tick.
From Sales to the Screen: A Journey of Self-Discovery
Zamparelli’s path to becoming a beloved presenter wasn’t a straightforward one. In 2008, she was a 27-year-old sales professional based in Bristol, driven by a desire to relocate to London to be closer to her then-partner, Lau. A bold move saw her audition for the BBC’s The Apprentice, facing fierce competition – over 20,000 applicants vied for a place.
“I was one of 20,000 people who auditioned,I get in,and then I got fired in front of 8m people,” she recalls. While previously describing the experience as “traumatic” and expressing amazement at emerging “unscathed,” Zamparelli harbours no regrets. “I learned so much from it, it brought a lot of exposure but also led to a lot of opportunities.”
That exposure proved pivotal, opening doors to roles in Irish television, including Republic of Telly and the hugely popular Bridget & Eamon. These opportunities, alongside her radio work, ultimately led to her current role as co-presenter on DWTS.
The Glamour and Grit of DWTS
dancing with the Stars has cemented Zamparelli’s status as a style icon, with viewers frequently enough focusing as much on her outfits as on the dance performances. She acknowledges the irony. “With the show – I mean, you work really hard on the script and everything else and then all people care about is what you are wearing. But I suppose we don’t mind. Ther’s very few shows like it in Ireland.”
However, she’s quick to dispel any illusions of constant glamour. “Normal TV isn’t at all glamorous – you could be sitting in the back of a car waiting to shoot, getting a sandwich from a garage, it’s tough. This is a joy to work on.” She especially enjoys her working relationship with co-presenter and expectant mother, Doireann Garrihy. “We do keep in contact with each other – she’s lovely to work with, very easy.”
Despite the dazzling set, Zamparelli admits to a surprising fear. “No, I’m OK with the stairs at this point but I do have nightmares about not being able to read the autocue!”
Embracing the outrageous: The Rocky Horror Show
Currently, Zamparelli is trading sequins for something a little more…outrageous. She’s joined the cast of The Rocky horror Show, a production she describes with infectious enthusiasm.”It’s outrageous, it’s hilarious, and whether you’re a diehard fan or a frist timer, this is one experience you won’t want to miss!” she enthuses. The role represents a welcome change of pace and a chance to embrace a different kind of performance.
Contentment and the Future
Looking back on her career trajectory, Jennifer Zamparelli exudes a sense of contentment. “I am, very happy and content – I love what you do and that makes it easy to give 100%.” She’s clearly passionate about her work and grateful for the opportunities she’s been given.
From the boardroom battles of The Apprentice to the glittering dance floor of DWTS and now the wild world of The Rocky Horror Show, Jennifer Zamparelli continues to prove her versatility, her resilience, and her ability to connect with audiences. She’s a testament to the power of embracing new challenges and finding joy in the journey.
