Harmer acknowledged the team’s poor form following the Chelmsford defeat. He admitted that initial rustiness after transitioning from four-day matches could be a factor, but he stressed that recent performances have lacked excuses. Essex previously suffered a 106-run defeat against Hampshire, followed by eight-wicket and six-wicket losses to Somerset and Glamorgan.
