The record-breaking hit animated film “Your Name.” Makoto Shinkai, an animation director who has won numerous awards for works such as “Weathering with You” and “The Sparrow’s Door Shut,” released his first full-length film “The Promised Place” in 2004. This work, which was also made into a stage play in 2018, will be performed as a new leading orchestra concert.
The film will be dramatically revived 20 years after the film’s release, with readings of famous scenes by popular artists, live music by an orchestra, and original footage.

This special reading orchestra concert will make use of director Makoto Shinkai’s original work, and will focus on the youthful life of three classmates, as well as the adults surrounding them who were divided into north and south. The story is also interwoven to create a three-dimensional story.

Starring Ryuga Sato, a “beautiful boy” who is active in a wide range of fields including singer, actor, and fashion model, will play the lead role of Hiroki Fujisawa. Airi Suzuki will play the role of Sayuri Sawatari in the Tokyo performance, and Sakurako Ohara will be cast in the Osaka performance. The role of Takuya Shirakawa is played by Ryudai Nakamura of the six-member male group “LIL LEAGUE” who performs dance, vocals, and rap. Also, Arisa Mizuki, Yuzuru Kurenai, Koran Kuroda, and EBiDAN’s 9-member evolutionary mixture unit “SUPER★DRAGON”Kouki TanakaTaiyo, Hinata Kashiwagi, and even Satoshi Hashimoto, talented actors will also appear, brightening up the characters appearing in the story.

The music will be supervised by Masataka Matsutoya, a melody maker and music producer who has created a number of masterpieces by creating new orchestral arrangements based on the beautiful and sad songs by Tenmon, who wrote the original music. In addition, the Grand Philharmonic Tokyo, conducted by Fumiaki Murakami, who performs a wide range of genres from classical music to contemporary music, popular music, movie and anime soundtracks, will appear with a full orchestra and enliven the world of the work with a powerful performance. The Special Leading Orchestra Concert will be the only opportunity to enjoy the performers singing theme songs and other songs.

The Tokyo performance will be held on November 5th (Tuesday) and 6th (Wednesday), 2024, at Sumida Triphony Hall (Koto-ku, Tokyo), and the Osaka performance will be held on November 20th (Wednesday), 2024, on NHK. Performed at Osaka Hall (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture).

Another world where Japan is divided into north and south by the Tsugaru Strait. A mysterious tower towering over occupied Ezo (Hokkaido), a torn people. Two boys, Hiroki and Takuya, who live in Aomori, on the other side of the border, build their own airplane, which they name Verashira, and promise to fly to the tower with Sayuri, the girl they admire. However, due to Sayuri’s sudden transfer, time passes without the promise being fulfilled. Eventually, the friction between the straits increases, and as the secrets of the tower are revealed, the promise from that time becomes the key that unites the three once again. In order to regain the “future” they want, will the plane carrying their feelings be able to fly to the promised land?

Kouki Tanaka/Noboru Hashimoto

It is a great honor to be able to work on Director Makoto Shinkai’s work in the form of a recitation with an orchestra.
I want to make a work that many people will find wonderful without destroying the image of the story that the director has drawn. Also, since my family played in orchestras, I felt very connected and was very happy.
It’s my favorite genre of music, so I’m really happy to be able to perform with so many gorgeous performers with that music in the background.
I hope to be able to deliver a play that is as good as any other performers.
