Harmony in Full Bloom: Jecheon International Music & Film Festival Kicks Off 5-Day Celebration
20th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival Opens in Style
The 20th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, the only recreational film festival in Korea set in Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, opened on the evening of the 5th.
The opening ceremony of this year’s film festival, which was moved to September after 20 years to avoid being affected by weather such as rainy seasons and typhoons, was held at the Jecheon Arts Center, which opened last month. Broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo served as emcee.
The opening ceremony highlight, the ‘Red Carpet’ event, was attended by domestic and international filmmakers including directors Kang Je-gyu, Kim Han-min, Shim Hyung-jun, actors Ki Joo-bong, Ham Eun-jung, Ok Ja-yeon, Son Byung-ho, and singer Kim Purum, who brightened the event.
Mayor Kim Chang-gyu of Jecheon City and chairman of the film festival said, “I am proud to be leading the development of the Korean film industry. I hope that people will heal their tired bodies and minds with film and music in Jecheon, a place with beautiful nature and healing.”

In the opening ceremony that followed, Lee Dong-jun, the executive director of the film festival who led the festival, came up on stage to announce the opening.
While the 12-member band formed by the executive committee gave an opening performance, a trailer video containing the film festival’s “20-year heritage” that marked its coming of age was shown on the screen, capturing the audience’s attention.
The opening film was ‘Abba: The Legend’ directed by James Logan. Before the opening film, director James Logan came on stage to greet the audience and held a short interview to communicate with them.
The film festival will be held for five days until the 10th in downtown Jecheon, with 98 films from 37 countries and various performances such as ‘One Summer Night’.
