Hall Eyes Open Championship After Strong Qualifying Round
Harry Hall, the Camborne-born golfer, is setting his sights on a strong showing at the Open Championship after a successful qualifying round. Hall, who turned professional in 2019 after playing college golf at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, is currently ranked 46th on the PGA Tour.
Hall secured his first tour victory at the Isco Championship a year prior and has recorded four top-10 finishes this year, making the cut in 16 of 19 events. He attributed his recent success at Burnham and Berrow to a strong start, including two rounds of 67.
“I played really nice,” Hall said. “I started off strong in the morning, I shot six under on the front [nine holes] and thought it was going to be a breeze, and then in the middle of the round I didn’t play so good. But I had a good attitude all day and was able to finish strong on Tuesday afternoon on the last few holes and got to eight under and I knew that would be enough.”
Hall emphasized the importance of support from the West cornwall Golf Club, notably during the qualifying rounds. He noted that while he has finished in the top 20 in five of his last six tournaments in the United States, the local backing has been invaluable. This local support is key to his golf tournament strategy.
“The amount of support I had on Tuesday from West Cornwall members and a lot of the South West, just coming up to watch me on Tuesday was awesome,” Hall said. “I reckon there were 400 people maybe walking around the course on Tuesday so it was really cool to have that support and hopefully I can have as much as possible in a couple of weeks’ time.”
