The Japanese cast of the musical “SIX,” which will be performed in Tokyo, Aichi and Osaka in January 2025, has been announced.
In this film, six ex-wives of King Henry VIII, known as the most famous tyrant in British history, sing about their dramatic lives in catchy pop and rock songs.
A musical with a non-stop 80-minute live performance. Created by students from Cambridge University in 2017, it was presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, and immediately became a hot topic. It has won 35 awards around the world, including the Tony Award for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design of a Musical. The Japan tour, scheduled to be performed in Tokyo in January 2025, will be performed in English (with Japanese subtitles) by a touring cast from the UK.
In contrast, the Japanese cast version will be performed in Japanese by a Japanese cast selected through auditions of global standards. All the performers are double cast, with Emiko Suzuki and Sonim (Tokyo performances only) playing the first wife Catherine of the Dragon, Meimi Tamura (Tokyo and Aichi only) and Maho Minamoto playing the second wife Anne Boleyn, Maaya Harada and Harumi playing the third wife Jane Seymour, Elianna and Marie Sugaya playing the fourth wife Anna of Cleves, Airi Suzuki and Erika Toyohara playing the fifth wife Catherine Howard, and Sora Kazuki and Ruki Saito playing the sixth wife Catherine Parr. The band members are Aoi Tanaka (keyboards), shizupi (bass), Mei Nakamura (guitar), and Raku Yamauchi (drums). The casting for the six queens has been based on a modern pop star, with Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez expected to play Catherine of Aragon, Lily Allen and Miley Cyrus expected to play Anne Boleyn, Adele and Sia expected to play Jane Seymour, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna expected to play Anna of Cleves, Ariana Grande and Britney Spears expected to play Katherine Howard, and Alicia Keys and Emeli Sandé expected to play Katherine Parr.
