Harvesting Excellence: Local Department of Agriculture Takes Home Prestigious 2024 State Award
Outstanding Department of Agriculture Wins 2024 State Award of Excellence
The Department of Agriculture has been recognized for its outstanding work in developing a bureaucratic system that emphasizes public participation. This approach, known as the “Inside-out Approach,” aims to create a participatory atmosphere for public employees at all levels.
The department has also developed a system outside of the government sector, known as the “Outside-in Approach,” which creates opportunities for the public sector to participate in public administration. This has resulted in successful operations, including:
- A database system for service recipients, the public, and interested parties that can be searched quickly and easily.
- A fast and efficient service system that can connect with relevant agencies within and outside the country, increasing the efficiency of 61 service activities.
- A network of public sector farmers participating in the department’s mission to transfer knowledge and technology, covering the entire country and coordinating with external agencies for further research.
The department has also established channels for disseminating information and research to service recipients and stakeholders, resulting in farmers with improved quality of life, skills, and competences. This has led to social equality and economic sustainability in agriculture, as well as increased production standards and economic competitiveness.
Participatory Public Administration Category: Working Together to Solve Poverty
The department’s work in the Participatory Public Administration Category has been recognized for its efforts in solving poverty and improving the quality of life for farmers. One notable example is the Fa Hom Coffee project, which covers forest inheritance, self-sufficiency, and the work of the Chiang Mai Agricultural Research and Development Center.
The Royal Initiative Small House in the Big Forest, Doi Pha Hom Pok, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, was established in response to the royal initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The project aims to improve the quality of life and living conditions for farmers, who were found to have insufficient income and lack of potential plants suitable for the area.

The project has been successful in integrating local governments and supporting villagers, resulting in coffee cultivation becoming the main occupation of the local population. The community has seen a significant increase in income, with coffee production meeting GAP standards and winning prizes from competitions.
The department’s commitment to developing the body of knowledge and passing it on to farmers has been recognized by the Director General of the Department of Agriculture. The department aims to increase farmers’ income, create farmers’ welfare, and improve traditional agricultural practices in line with the policy of the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
