Harvesting Hope: Cauca Municipalities Get a Boost with Cutting-Edge Equipment to Revolutionize Local Food Production
The project encourages production for self-consumption, healthy habits and lifestyles, and saving local products.
Social Prosperity and the World Food Program are moving forward in the implementation of the Self-Consumption Productive Units project in the municipalities of Inzá, Bolívar and Páez, in the department of Cauca.
This initiative will guarantee the food security of 2,100 rural households: indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, households in poverty and victims of forced displacement.
Almost 8,400 residents of this section receive supplies, equipment and training to improve eating and access to food. The project promotes production for self-sufficiency, healthy lifestyles and saving local products.
So far, two visits and three meetings have been held in the municipalities of Inzá, Bolívar and Páez, where households have exchanged knowledge and information, in order to recognize the eating habits of the communities and learn more efficient ways to manage crops, to guarantee household food throughout the year.
In the three meetings (community pots) supplies from the healthy habits and lifestyle element have been distributed to the homes, including hats, aprons, knives, cutting boards, pots and plastic containers.
Inputs equivalent to $1,078,600 per household have also been provided: vegetable seeds, aromatics, cereals, fruit trees, legumes, musaceae and roots; hoes, spades, pikes; polyshades, chicken wire mesh, water storage tanks, sprinklers, machetes and watering cans.
This joint project, framed in Agreement 687 of 2023, contributes to the food security of vulnerable households in Antioquia, Magdalena, Cauca, Bolívar and Chocó.
