Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker addressed the Political Union at Yale University on April 14, 2026, asserting that the American Empire is fading fast and will inevitably fall.

During the speech, Piker argued that the collapse of the United States as a global superpower is a certainty, warning that such transitions are rarely peaceful. He told students that while some empires decline over centuries, the American decline will likely occur much faster and be accompanied by increasing amounts of violence.

Piker expressed support for a resolution titled End the American Empire during the event. He questioned the utility of the resolution by suggesting the process of decline is already underway, asking the audience, how do you end something that’s already in the process of dying?

The streamer emphasized the need for a controlled decline to prevent a more catastrophic outcome for future generations.

We must manage the retreat of a superpower from the world stage. This is a challenge for our time. Because if we do not do this, then the American Empire will come to an end in a much more violent way, a curse on future generations that we must avoid at all costs.

Critique of U.S. Foreign Policy and History

Piker’s remarks included a critique of the United States’ historical trajectory following World War II. He suggested that the U.S. turned against the Soviet Union due to anti-communist fervor.

He further claimed that the U.S. Eventually became the monsters that we had supposedly vanquished and exhibited imperial bloodlust. Piker questioned the purpose of defeating the Nazi regime if the United States subsequently sought to dominate the globe through violence.

Invoking the words of Chinese dictator Mao Zedong, Piker referred to reactionaries as paper tigers, suggesting they appear more formidable than they actually are. He stated that U.S. Reactionaries, like all reactionaries in history, do not have much strength.

Comments on Israel and the Republican Party

The speech also touched upon international conflicts and domestic politics. Piker described Israel as being in a fascist death spiral that he compared to the trajectory of the Nazis. He has previously stated a preference for Hamas and characterized Israel as a fascist settler colonial apartheid state.

Regarding domestic politics, Piker identified the Republican Party as the biggest domestic terrorist within the United States, as well as the largest terrorist organization internationally.

Campus Reaction and External Backlash

The presentation was met with approval from many students, some of whom stomped their feet during the speech. In an interview with the Yale Daily News, student Cemre Keles described Piker’s remarks as electric and praised the university for providing a platform to a modern media presence that appeals to their age demographic.

However, the event drew sharp criticism from outside the university. Liora Rez, the founder of StopAntisemitism, described Yale’s decision to host Piker as a moral failure and indefensible.

Elevating a dangerous figure associated with such rhetoric is not academic inquiry, it is the normalization of extremism. This is part of a broader, deeply troubling trend within the Ivy League, where elite institutions are increasingly willing to platform voices that traffic in outrage and hostility while ignoring the real-world consequences.

Rez added that Jewish students are left to believe that an environment of hostility is acceptable when universities platform such figures.

Senator Rick Scott, a Republican from Florida, called for the revocation of federal funding from Yale University. Scott noted that he had spoken at the Yale Political Union the previous year and expressed outrage that the institution was now hosting an individual who had suggested Scott should be killed over his positions on health care.

Background on Hasan Piker

Piker is a prominent far-left influencer with millions of online followers and has gained influence within the Democratic Party. While some politicians have campaigned with him ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, others have condemned him for anti-American and antisemitic comments.

Piker’s history of controversial statements includes claiming that the United States deserved the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Yale University did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the event or the calls for funding cuts.
