Though, veteran defender Haynes, who joined Carlton this summer after 211 games wiht GWS, defended Voss. Haynes emphasized the players’ role in executing the game plan and maintaining consistency. He stated that blaming the coach for essential issues is misplaced.
“You can’t target the coach on our fundamentals and consistency,” Haynes said. “It’s on us players to execute that… our goal now is to play the system we’re after for four quarters.”
Voss acknowledged the collective accountability for the loss, including his own role as coach. He said the coaching staff would thoroughly review the game to identify areas for correction and ensure the team plays to its potential.
“It’s a collective accountability - there’s no separating groups here,” Voss said. “We always look at ourselves (coaches) first, then impart some of the things we need to in front of the players and ask them to play to the standard as well.”
Despite the pressure,Voss maintains confidence in his ability to lead the team. He pointed to the team’s overall improvement in key performance indicators as evidence of progress, expressing certainty about the direction they are heading.
“That was very unlike us, the way we turned up,” Voss said.”When you look at our body of work, there’s been a genuine shift in our numbers – and in a really good way… That doesn’t leave me in any doubt whatsoever about what we’re trying to create here.”
What’s next
Carlton faces a critical stretch of games. The team needs to demonstrate improvement to solidify Voss’s position and regain fan confidence. The role of each player will be vital in achieving success.
