A New Era for Manchester Healthcare
Manchester, New Hampshire’s Catholic Medical Center (CMC), a 330-bed acute care hospital, is undergoing a significant change with nearly $100 million in investments focused on facility enhancements, cutting-edge technology, and critical infrastructure upgrades. These improvements come after CMC was acquired by HCA Healthcare, based in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 1st.
Modernizing Core Infrastructure
A cornerstone of the investment is a $43.4 million renovation of the hospital’s central energy plant. This overhaul will modernize the cooling, heating, and power systems, ensuring more reliable and efficient operations. According to a recent statement, the existing plant had been diligently maintained by CMC’s facilities team, but a complete upgrade was essential to support future growth and innovation.
This investment isn’t simply about fixing what’s broken; it’s about building a foundation for the future of healthcare delivery in Manchester. A modern, resilient energy infrastructure is crucial for supporting advanced medical technologies and expanding patient care services.
Expanding Access to Care
CMC is proactively addressing space constraints and seeking opportunities to expand its services. The hospital successfully bid for the lease of a former Rite Aid property and is currently completing due diligence for its purchase. Initially, the site will provide much-needed additional parking for the emergency department, but CMC is actively exploring long-term development options to broaden the scope of care offered to the community.
Investing in Patient Care and technology
Beyond the energy plant and property acquisition, CMC has allocated $46.5 million to general facility renovations, equipment upgrades, and enhancements to patient care areas. A dedicated $2.7 million is being invested in a state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab, which is slated to open by the end of 2025. This specialized lab will enable CMC to provide advanced diagnostic and treatment options for patients with heart rhythm disorders.
These investments demonstrate a commitment to providing patients with the highest quality care in a modern and comfortable environment. The upgrades will not only improve the patient experience but also empower clinicians with the tools they need to deliver exceptional medical outcomes.
