He Got Too Greedy
Labes Secures Bronze at U-20 German Wrestling Championships
ZELL, Germany – Mika Labes, a wrestler from KSV Witten, secured a bronze medal at the U-20 German Wrestling Championships in Zell after a hard-fought competition. The 16-year-old, a three-time U-17 national champion, competed in the 60 kg category.
Labes started strong, dominating Gregor Flaig of Winzeln with a 9-0 technical superiority victory. His next match against Marc-Anthony Etim of Neuss proved to be a greater challenge. Labes initially took a commanding 5-0 lead, but Etim, a former gymnast, capitalized on a tactical error by labes.
“sadly, Mika got too greedy, and his opponent used it,” said Mirko Entlich, KSV youth coach, who oversaw the Witten athletes. entlich questioned a four-point score awarded to Etim, but video review upheld the call. Etim then seized the momentum, ultimately pinning Labes after increasing his lead to 10-5.
Despite the setback, Labes rebounded with two consecutive victories, including a 9-0 win against Milian Zambo of TSV Kandern to clinch the bronze medal.”It coudl have been even better, but tactically Mika is still missing a little bit,” Entlich said. “And from defeats you also learn more than victory.”
Niclas Kramarczyk, also from Witten, faced an early exit in the 72 kg class after a loss to Maurice Tandler of Viernheim. Entlich noted that Kramarczyk had been hampered by illness and limited training time.
In the U-20 freestyle championship held in Brandenburg, Mitchel Tasdemir of KSV Witten earned a bronze medal in the 97 kg weight class.Tasdemir won two of his four matches, culminating in a 10-0 technical superiority victory over Nikolas Heissig of AC Penzberg in the third-place match. Klaus Eigenbrodt supervised Tasdemir.
Leni Seelig, representing Sport-Union Annen, narrowly missed a medal at the U-20 championship in Frankfurt/Oder,finishing fourth in the 59 kg category. The 17-year-old, who had previously suffered a shoulder injury, lost two of her first three matches. In the bronze medal match, Seelig faced Svea Reichmann, who won 9-9 due to the last point scored.
