The author has been testing AKG N5 and N9 Hybrid headphones and finds them both “pretty solid”. Both AKG models come with a Wi-fi dongle for connecting to devices via USB-C to transmit audio over Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi connectivity offers higher quality and lower latency compared to Bluetooth due to increased bandwidth. The Wi-Fi dongle for the AKG headphones is cleverly hidden within one of the earcups. The author believes Wi-Fi is the “holy grail” for headphones, and apple has been rumored to be pursuing Wi-Fi integration for years. The HED Unity headphones previously reviewed by Trusted Reviews *did* have Wi-Fi connectivity, but suffered from a poorly developed control app. The author wonders why more headphone manufacturers haven’t adopted Wi-Fi integration, suggesting it could substantially improve models like the Sony WH-1000XM6 and AirPods max. Sonos did not include Wi-fi connectivity in their Ace headphones despite it being a logical addition.
