Investigation Launched‍ Following Social Media Reports

The Malaysian ⁢Health Ministry (MOH), through its Food Safety adn Quality Division (BKKM), is‌ investigating claims that a woman died after consuming a ‍health supplement ‌recently ⁤popularized on social media. The investigation began on November 9, 2023, following reports circulating ⁢online.

Product‌ Contains Prohibited Ingredient

Preliminary checks by BKKM revealed the supplement contains glutathione,an ingredient listed on ‌the Negative List within the Drug registration Guidance⁤ Document (DRGD).This list identifies substances and⁣ products prohibited for ‌use in Malaysia. The product was reportedly being sold‍ on various e-commerce platforms⁣ and‌ directly through social media channels.

According to BKKM, ‌the product’s composition violates Section⁣ 13B(2)(d) of the ⁤Food Act 1983, wich prohibits the inclusion of ingredients not permitted under Malaysian food regulations.

Details of the initial Claim

The investigation was prompted by a post on⁣ the social media platform Threads, alleging‍ a woman died after taking a RM20 supplement⁣ marketed for skin-lightening. BKKM is currently attempting to trace the origin of this‍ claim ‌to⁤ verify its accuracy.

As of November 9, 2023, BKKM stated that no posts from close family members or friends ⁢have ⁢surfaced ‌on⁣ social‌ media⁤ confirming the reported death linked to the supplement. This creates a contradiction with the initial ⁣claim and is ⁤a key focus of ⁣the ongoing investigation.

ongoing Investigation and‍ Public Appeal

BKKM is conducting a comprehensive ‌investigation, examining product labeling, ingredients, ⁣manufacturing facilities, importers, and distribution networks within ⁣Malaysia. The division stated it will ⁤provide updates as⁢ the investigation‌ progresses.

Individuals with information relevant⁢ to the investigation are encouraged to contact BKKM⁤ at⁣ 03-88850796 or via email at bkkm@moh.gov.my.
