Sheikh Khaled Al-Jundi Supports Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s Condolences to Artist Khaled Al-Saw
Sheikh Khaled Al-Jundi, a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has expressed solidarity with Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen, the Imam and preacher of the Omar Makram Mosque in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen had offered condolences to artist Khaled Al-Saw following the death of his dog, sparking a widespread debate on social media.
Sheikh Khaled Al-Jundi praised Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s actions, considering them a new humanitarian banner that showcases Islam’s compassion for humans, animals, and all creatures. He described Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s position as a call for consideration and thought, highlighting his unique approach to offering human harmony, mercy, and compassion.
Sheikh Al-Jundi added that Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s words had influenced him, convincing him that Islamic scholars embody mercy, retribution, and the ethics of true Islam. He sent a special salute to Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s overwhelming mercy, which had filled his heart.
Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen had expressed his condolences to artist Khaled Al-Saw through his official Facebook account, saying, ”My sincere condolences on the death of the dog of artist brother Khaled Al-Saw. May God Almighty comfort his heart and inspire patience… Separation from him, sorrow at death, is a mercy to the hearts of servants, and Islam is a religion of mercy to every domestic animal.”
However, not everyone shared Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen’s sentiments. Sheikh Muhammad Abu Bakr issued a scathing criticism, saying, “Imagine that we have reached the day when a famous scholar expresses compassion and sympathy to an artist for the death of his dog, and there is no consolation for the oppressed man.”
