Blizzard Entertainment released Patch 35.2 on April 14, 2026, introducing a substantial update to the Battlegrounds mode in Hearthstone. The update launches Battlegrounds Season 13, titled CATACLYSM CALLS
, which went live at 10:00 a.m. PDT. The release implements a significant overhaul of the minion pool, the introduction of new strategic keywords, and the return of a previously featured game mechanic.
A primary feature of the Season 13 update is the return of the Trinkets mechanic. Blizzard has implemented an enhanced system designed to provide players with more synergistic Trinkets more frequently during matches. This system incorporates a wide array of options, including 33 new and 75 returning Lesser Trinkets, as well as 40 new and 74 returning Greater Trinkets.
New Keyword Mechanics for Demons and Dragons
Patch 35.2 introduces two new keywords specifically designed to alter the gameplay dynamics for Demon and Dragon minion types. For Demon compositions, the update introduces the Fodder
keyword. This mechanic allows players to add Fodder tokens to their minion pool, which Demons can then consume to gain additional stats, adding a new layer of interactivity to Demon-based strategies.
Dragon minions have been updated with the Chromadrake
keyword. These minions appear in five different colors, with each color providing a unique effect. The Chromadrake effects are designed to enhance both the Dragon minions themselves and the player’s Tavern Spells, providing more strategic flexibility for Dragon builds.
Minion Pool and Hero Roster Updates
The update brings a comprehensive change to the Battlegrounds minion pool to ensure fresh gameplay for the new season. The pool now includes 48 new minions and 61 returning minions. This shift alters the available combinations and synergies players can pursue during a match.
Alongside the minion updates, two new heroes have been added to the roster. The first is Genn, Worgen King, whose title is King of Duality
. The second is Mister Clocksworth, known as Double Time
. While the specific mechanical details of their hero powers were not fully detailed in the initial patch notes, their titles suggest unique mechanical twists for the Battlegrounds mode.
Limited-Time Events and Digital Collectibles
Concurrent with the launch of Season 13, Blizzard has introduced a limited-time event titled Battle in the Firelands!
This event runs from April 14 to May 5, 2026. The narrative focuses on an alternate timeline where the corrupted Firelord Ragnaros consumed the World Tree and intends to destroy the current timeline’s tree. Players participate by joining Malfurion to stop this threat.
The update also introduces a new digital collectible in the form of a pet. From April 14 to May 5, 2026, players can obtain Deathling
from the Treasures booth at the Darkmoon Faire. Deathling is described as the spawn of Deathwing and is characterized as scrappy and bitey
.
Deathling represents a technical milestone for Hearthstone pets, as he is the first pet in the game to remain airborne. The pet is designed to flutter beside the player and provide visual reactions to gameplay, including manifesting manic fervor during successful plays or melting down during setbacks.
In addition to the seasonal Battlegrounds content, Patch 35.2 includes the rollout of new event cards and two Tavern Brawls. Blizzard has directed players to the Hearthstone Official Card Library and the community subreddit for the complete directory of updated, removed, and returning minions and Trinkets.
