Heinrich Klaasen Retires From International Cricket
Heinrich Klaasen,the South African batter,has announced his retirement from international cricket. Known for his explosive middle-order batting, the 33-year-old will continue his career in franchise leagues around the globe.
Klaasen’s last appearance for South Africa was in March during a Champions Trophy semi-final loss to New Zealand. He debuted in both one-day international and T20 formats in 2018, accumulating 60 ODI appearances and 58 T20 caps. His Test debut came against India in 2019; he played four Tests.
The decision to retire, Klaasen said, was arduous but made with ”absolute peace.” He added that representing his country was “the biggest privilege” and “everything that I have worked for.”
Klaasen currently plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier league. He is also slated to represent Manchester Originals in The Hundred, after a stint with Oval Invincibles.
“It is a sad day for me. It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future,” Klaasen said in a statement. “From the first day, it was the biggest privilege representing my country.”
