Helene’s Fury: Two More Georgia Counties Added to FEMA’s Relief List After Devastating Hurricane
Atlanta–Homeowners and renters in Stephens and Wilkes Counties with uninsured damage or loss caused by Hurricane Helene can now apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Assistance.
FEMA may be able to assist with critical needs, relocation, temporary housing, basic home repair costs, personal property damage, or other needs resulting from disasters. Previously, Aplin, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bullock, Burke, Butts, Camden, Candler, Char Dayton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Elbert, Emanuel, Evans, Fulton , Glasscock, Green, Hancock, Owen, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Lawrence, Liberty, Lincoln, Lowndes, McDuffie, McIntosh, Montgomery , Newton, Pierce, Raben, Richmond, Scriven, Taliaferro, Tatnall, Telfair, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Troitlen, Ware , Warren, Washington, Wayne and Wheeler counties have been authorized to provide assistance to families.
There are many ways to apply: visit the Disaster Recovery Center, visit onlineDisasterAssistance.gov use the FEMA app or call the FEMA Helpline800-621-3362 . The telephone hotline is open every day and offers help in most languages. If you use a relay service such as a video relay service, telephone, or other service, provide FEMA with the number for that service.

The application deadline is January 7, 2025.
What you need to apply
- Current phone number where you can be reached.
- Your address at the time of the disaster and your current address.
- Your social security number.
- General list of damages and losses.
- If you choose direct deposit, please provide your bank information.
- If insured, provide policy number or agent and/or company name.
If you have homeowners, renters or flood insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. FEMA cannot provide duplicate assistance for insurance-covered losses. If your policy does not cover all of your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.
