Connor Hellebuyck Named NHL’s MVP, Wins Hart and Vezina Trophies

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck added two major awards to his trophy case Thursday, claiming both the Hart and Vezina Trophies.
The Hart Trophy is awarded annually to the player deemed most valuable to his team. hellebuyck is only the fourth goalie in the expansion era to win the Hart,and the first since Carey Price in 2015. He received 81 first-place votes from the Professional Hockey Writers Association, ahead of Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl.
Hellebuyck also secured his third Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goalie, earning 31 of 32 first-place votes from NHL general managers. He is the first netminder to win both the Hart and Vezina in the same season as Price a decade ago.
The awards were presented during the NHL’s award show prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. The broadcast included footage of Hellebuyck’s family surprising him with the trophies at his Michigan home earlier this year.Jets goaltending partner Eric Comrie was also present for the reveal.
“Looking back, I’ll probably picture this day as one of the greatest of my career,” Hellebuyck said of receiving the two trophies.
Hellebuyck led the league with 47 wins during the regular season, helping the Jets secure the Presidents’ Trophy. He also topped qualified goalies in shutouts (8) and goals-against average (2.00), while posting a.925 save percentage.His season included an eight-game win streak and an 11-game point streak (9-0-2).
Though, his regular-season success did not translate into playoff success, as he went 6-7 with an .866 save percentage and 3.08 goals-against average. He was pulled three times in the first-round series against St.Louis, which Winnipeg won in seven games. The Jets were then eliminated by Dallas in the second round.
Othre goalies to win the Hart Trophy in the expansion era include dominik Hasek (1996-97 and 1997-98 with Buffalo) and Jose Theodore (2001-02 with Montreal).

Hellebuyck will look to build on his award-winning season and lead the Jets deeper into the playoffs next year. He is under contract with Winnipeg for the foreseeable future and is expected to remain a key part of their team.
