Henry Lau: Singland Festival Venue at Marina Bay Sands Not Suitable
Henry Lau Criticizes Venue During Singapore Debut Performance
The Singland Festival, Singapore’s largest indoor New year celebration held at Marina Bay Sands, has faced early challenges in 2026. Following K-pop artist Rain’s comments about audience engagement on new Year’s Eve, singer-songwriter Henry Lau publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance venue on January 3rd.
Solo Debut Marred by Visibility issues
The January 3rd performance was intended as the 36-year-old Lau’s (formerly of Super Junior-M) debut as a solo artist in Singapore. However, the multi-instrumentalist found himself actively addressing issues with the venue while performing with his violin. Lau repeatedly moved around the stage, attempting to connect with fans in different sections.
“Not a Place for Performing”
Apologizing to the audience, Lau expressed strong concerns about the venue’s suitability for live performances, stating his hope that “no other singer, no other performer, will perform at this place again.” He clarified that his criticism wasn’t directed at Marina Bay Sands or the audience, but rather at the venue’s inherent limitations for staging a concert.
Lau pinpointed visibility as the core problem. He explained that audience members were unable to see him clearly when he remained in one spot, hindering his ability to connect with fans. ”If I am standing here, they can’t see me, they can’t see me, no one can see me. And the most important thing is I want to see you all,” he said, emphasizing the importance of artist-audience interaction.
