Hero of the High Seas: Jaw-Dropping Video Shows Surfer’s Daring Rescue of Bird from Drowning Waves
Hero Surfer Rescues Struggling Seabird in Viral Video
Social media users are trying to identify the surfer who was seen in a video rescuing a struggling seabird in Florida. The video, which has been shared hundreds of times on Reels, shows the surfer carefully picking up the stranded bird, placing it on his surfboard, and rowing it back to shore.
Brandon Terronez, who took the video while walking along the Cocoa Beach Pier, told FOX 35 Orlando, “He’s a hero to a lot of people.” Terronez added, “We thought so poor bird. At that moment, there may have been something I could have done.”
Heather Pepe-Dillon, from Wild Florida Rescue, which responds to calls of endangered wildlife in Brevard County, Florida, praised the surfer’s actions. “If this guy had come to shore and reported it, he wouldn’t have been rescued. So this is a fantastic case and we love seeing this,” Pepe-Dillon said.
Wild Florida Rescue wasn’t called in this particular case, but Pepe-Dillon believes the bird in the video may have been a sooty gull. Seabirds don’t survive if caught in rough water, and Pepe-Dillon noted that the bird may have been suffering from hypothermia.
Social media users are calling the mysterious surfer who swam away the stranded bird a ”hero.” The video continues to gain traction on social media, with one of the most common comments being, “And then God created surfers.”
Brandon Terronez said, “It might only take a few seconds out of the day, like this surfer, but it can have a ripple effect and have a lasting impact.” Fox News Digital has yet to successfully identify the mystery surfer in the footage.
