Herry IP No Longer Coaching Mixed Doubles at Pelatnas
Herry IP Steps Down as indonesia’s Mixed Doubles Badminton Coach
Jakarta – In a surprising move, renowned Indonesian badminton coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, affectionately known as “naga Api” (Fire Dragon), has confirmed his departure from the national badminton training center (Pelatnas PBSI) starting in 2025.
Herry, who has been instrumental in shaping Indonesia’s mixed doubles prowess, revealed his decision to detikSport via text message on thursday, December 19, 2024. “Yes, it’s true (I will no longer be coaching mixed doubles at Pelatnas PBSI),” he stated.
While Herry declined to elaborate on the reasons behind his departure, stating he wasn’t ready for an interview, his exit adds to a growing list of veteran coaches who have recently left Pelatnas PBSI.
Earlier, Aryono Miranat, the former head coach of Indonesia’s men’s doubles team, also decided to step down, opting to join the Djarum badminton club.
Herry IP’s future plans remain unclear. However, speculation is rife that he might receive offers from other countries, considering his impressive track record and international reputation.
In September 2023, Herry IP revealed that he had previously turned down a lucrative offer to coach in china, choosing to remain loyal to Indonesia. “I received offers from many places, the most persistent being from China. I met with them twice, they made me a tempting offer. But I told them I was still under contract with PBSI and couldn’t accept. Maybe if my contract ends, it’s possible. I kept my answer simple. I chose to stay with indonesia, even though the offer was very attractive. For me, it’s not all about money,” he said at the time.
Herry IP’s departure marks a meaningful shift in the Indonesian badminton landscape, leaving fans and analysts wondering about the future direction of the national mixed doubles team.
