Hezbollah Launches First Attack on Israel’s Ashdod Naval Base with Over 340 Missiles
Hizbullah Attacks Israel’s Ashdod Naval Base
Hizbullah has launched an attack on Israel’s Ashdod naval base for the first time. They claimed to target military sites in Tel Aviv using advanced missiles and combat drones. Israeli military reported air raid sirens sounding in central and northern regions, including suburbs of Tel Aviv, and confirmed intercepting several projectiles from Lebanon.
In this attack, Hizbullah fired more than 340 missiles from Lebanon. Reports indicate at least 11 people were injured, with one man in serious condition.
Israel Conducts Airstrikes in Beirut
The day before, Israel conducted airstrikes in central Beirut, killing at least 29 people and injuring 66, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health. Lebanon’s acting Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, condemned these attacks, stating they send a “bloody” message against U.S.-led ceasefire efforts.
Mikati’s office asserted that Israel is openly rejecting ongoing proposed solutions. Meanwhile, EU diplomat Josep Borrell urged both Israel and Hizbullah to reach a definitive agreement. The EU has also committed €200 million to assist the Lebanese military in enhancing its presence in the south, following UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Casualties in Lebanon and Israel
In related developments, the Lebanese army reported that an Israeli strike in al-Amriyeh killed one soldier and injured 18. Since the conflict began, over 3,500 people have died in Lebanon, and around 1.2 million have been displaced. In Israel, about 90 soldiers and nearly 50 civilians have died due to fighting in the north and the ground invasion since early October. Furthermore, more than 60,000 residents have fled northern Israel amid escalating violence.
The ongoing conflict continues to cause significant destruction and rising casualty numbers, with both sides engaging in retaliatory strikes despite international calls for a ceasefire.
