Hizbullah Spokesman Mohammed Afif Killed in Israeli Attack in Beirut
On November 17, 2024, Mohammed Afif, the spokesman for Hizbullah, was killed in an Israeli attack in Beirut, Lebanon. Lebanese security sources confirmed his death, stating that the strike targeted the center of Beirut and hit the building of the Baath Party’s branch in Lebanon.
Sources reported that the attack occurred in the Ras al-Nabaa area, which resulted in the death of Afif, who served as the media liaison for Hizbullah. Ali Hijazi, the secretary-general of the Baath Party in Lebanon, also verified the news.
The Israeli military has not commented on the incident that resulted in the death of the Hizbullah spokesman. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported one fatality and three injuries, though the numbers could change as recovery efforts continue at the attack site.
Mohammed Afif had been responsible for Hizbullah’s media relations for many years, often interacting with local and international journalists on behalf of the group. Following the assassination of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a September attack, Afif had held several press conferences in southern Beirut.
In a recent press event, he claimed that Hizbullah had deployed drones targeting the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During that event, the Israeli military issued warnings of an impending strike in the vicinity, interrupting the conference.
The attack has generated significant destruction in the area, with reports indicating that some individuals may still be trapped under the rubble of the building.
