Olympic⁣ Gold Medalist Sidelined

Paris 2024 Olympic team gold medalist Hezly Rivera will be unable to compete at the upcoming FIG Artistic Gymnastics World championships in Jakarta due to an ankle injury.

The 17-year-old‍ announced via Instagram that she rolled her ankle during training, forcing her to​ withdraw from the World Selection event scheduled for September 30 – ‍October 2 in Crossville, ⁤Tennessee, where she was considered a frontrunner for ⁤the team heading to Indonesia.

Rivera’s Statement ‍and Recovery Focus

“After talking it through wiht my ‍doctors and coaches, I’ve decided the best thing right now is to sit out of the worlds Selection Camp,” Rivera wrote. She expressed disappointment with the timing‌ but ​remains optimistic, stating, “I’m definitely bummed about the timing, but I’m excited to cheer on my teammates and Team USA​ from⁤ home. My focus is on recovery and coming back⁤ stronger in 2026.”

Individual Events at 2024 ​championships

This year’s ⁣world championships will consist solely of individual events, foregoing a team competition.

Potential Loss for Team USA

Rivera was a key member ‍of Team USA’s gold medal-winning team in Paris, alongside ‌ Simone Biles,Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles.She was viewed as a strong contender ⁤for a medal in the all-around competition, as well as on the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
