PACHUCA, Mexico (AP) — hidalgo recorded 500 cases of sexually transmitted diseases in a single ⁣week, according⁢ to‍ the latest epidemiological bulletin‍ from the Secretariat of⁢ Health. Vulvovaginitis, syphilis, and HIV were among the most frequently detected STDs.

Vulvovaginitis Cases Surge

Between April⁣ 6 and ⁤12, health officials diagnosed 437 women in Hidalgo with vulvovaginitis, an inflammation or infection triggered ⁤by bacteria, ⁢viruses, or chemical irritants. Symptoms‍ include itching, burning, pain, redness, ‍abnormal vaginal discharge, and a foul odor.

The Epidemiological Bulletin indicates 5,975 cases of vulvovaginitis have been reported in 2025.During the⁢ same period in 2024, there were ⁣5,347 cases, marking ⁢an increase of ⁢628.

Syphilis Infections Reported

Health authorities reported 34 new syphilis infections in week ⁢15 of this year, bringing the total ⁢to 536 cases in 2025.Of⁤ these, 230 are men and 306 are ⁤women. Last year,for the ⁢same week,562 transmissions of ‍syphilis were recorded. Syphilis can cause sores, rashes, fever, throat pain, and hair ⁢loss.

Other STDs in Hidalgo

One ‍case of soft chancre, characterized⁢ by painful genital ulcers, was reported during the epidemiological week, bringing the year’s total to three cases (two men and ‍one ⁤woman).

Twenty-two cases of genital herpes, which causes itching, ulcers, and can recur for ⁤years, were reported in Hidalgo. Six cases were men and 16 were ⁣women. This ‍is an increase⁢ from the 12 infections reported during⁣ the same period last year.

Hepatitis B and ⁢HPV

while Hepatitis B is not classified as an STD, it ⁣can be transmitted through ⁤bodily fluids. No new cases were detected this week; however, three men have been diagnosed with Hepatitis B in 2025, compared to four cases by this time last year.

The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), ‍known for causing genital warts, saw five new detections. ‍A total of 124 people have been diagnosed with HPV this ⁢year, including ⁤three men and⁢ 121 women. Last year,479 ⁢cases had been reported by this point.

HIV Cases Show Decrease Compared to Last Year

The bulletin⁤ also reported 22 new HIV detections in hidalgo,bringing‍ the total to 105 cases in‍ 2025. Of these, 58 were detected in clinical stage one, 20⁣ in stage two, and 18 in stage three. Nine⁣ individuals were diagnosed when the virus had progressed⁣ to AIDS.

Men account for 86.6% of ⁢HIV cases (91 cases), while women account for 13.3% (14 cases). Detections‍ have decreased compared to last year,when 128 HIV cases were reported.
