Hideo Kojima announces cameo in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2

I make a cameo appearance in the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 as Hideyoshi Oshima, the character who appeared in the previous game, Hideo Kojima announced on X, confirming his return to Night City as the fictional braindance director.

Game developer CD Projekt Red confirmed the casting on social media ahead of the October 20, 2026 release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. The second season dropped all 10 episodes at once, bringing back the Metal Gear Solid creator.

Hideyoshi Oshima Returns in Netflix Anime Season

Kojima previously appeared as an unexpected Easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077, where players could discover his character inside Konpeki Plaza during Arasaka-focused missions. IGN reported that the cameo was entirely optional and unattached to the mainline quests, requiring players to search near a bar to overhear the developer discussing his artistic approach to memory-exploring tech.

In the original game, Oshima described wanting his productions to convey raw human emotion by combining happiness with melancholy.

Critical Reception and Future Project Schedules

IGN reviewed the new ten-episode release with a 9/10 score, describing how the season delivers fast-paced action while noting it does not quite reach the highs of its predecessor. Reviewers highlighted the return of familiar creative elements alongside the expansion of the franchise’s screen presence.

Alongside his anime cameo, Kojima maintains an active development schedule. Tbreak noted that the studio lead is currently occupied with projects such as Physint and OD, with actor Bill Skarsgård attached to lead the former title. Meanwhile, Netflix and CD Projekt Red have not yet disclosed the full extent of Oshima’s screen time in the new animated episodes.
