The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) reported that the incident began around 1:15 a.m. When a trooper attempted to stop a Subaru Outback traveling at 98 mph in a 65-mph zone. The driver failed to yield, which led to a pursuit.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Blue Creek Road and Pryor Creek Road. According to the highway patrol, the crash occurred while the vehicle was traveling at a high speed.
Casualties and Injuries
Three individuals were involved in the crash:
- A 16-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
- The driver, a 22-year-old man from Billings, was injured and taken to Billings Clinic for treatment.
- A second passenger, a 23-year-old man from Dickinson, North Dakota, was also injured and transported to Billings Clinic.
The Montana Highway Patrol stated that neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to be factors in the incident.
