Exclusive Hunting Rifle Vanishes from High-Ranking Officer’s Home; Investigation Reopened
OSLO – Police are investigating the disappearance of an expensive hunting rifle from the residence of a high-ranking officer in the Norwegian Armed Forces. The rifle, valued at approximately 120,000 NOK (Norwegian Krone) along with its accessories, was reportedly stolen from a weapons cabinet inside the officer’s home.
According to initial reports, the theft occured without any signs of forced entry or burglary. Other weapons present in the cabinet were left untouched, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
The case was initially closed due to a lack of leads, but authorities have now reopened the investigation.
“The case was reopened to investigate how the theft had taken place,” stated police lawyer Maren Myklebust Moe of the Oslo Police District. The officer in question is described as a decorated war hero with extensive connections within the Armed Forces. When contacted by VG,the officer declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
The missing rifle is identified as a Blaser R8, equipped with binoculars and a suppressor. Lars Jonny Røysum, a shop owner with over 40 years of experience in hunting weapon sales, described the rifle as being “in the top visibility both in price and quality.”
Moe confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry and that other weapons remained in the cabinet. “None of the other weapons were stolen. That is part of the reason why we have reopened the investigation of the case. There is something the investigation must seek to shed light,” she said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
