To sign a six-year contract here in Vegas is a dream come true. I want to say thanks to (general manager) Kelly (McCrimmon) and (president) George (McPhee) and my agent and everything to make it all happen. I’m vrey excited to be here.
He further emphasized his commitment to the team’s winning culture and his appreciation for his teammates and the Vegas environment:
With the team, the organization, they’re always pushing to win. I’ve played in teams that haven’t made the playoffs and that and I think it’s a blessing to be on a competitive team every year and have a chance to win. And also, I mean, I love my teammates here, love the organization, love all the staff, and living in Vegas is just an added bonus.
Contract Details and Career Trajectory
Adin Hill is currently in the second year of a two-year, $9.8 million contract (with a $4.9 million AAV) that he signed with Vegas on June 30, 2023. This new extension ensures he will remain with the Golden Knights, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (no.76) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Hill’s NHL career spans 175 regular-season games (162 starts) across stints with the Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, and Golden Knights. His overall record stands at 88-62-12, with a 2.65 GAA,a .909 save percentage, and 11 shutouts.Since being traded to Vegas on August 29, 2022, he has compiled a 59-30-7 record with six shutouts in 101 games (99 starts).
Coach Cassidy’s Perspective
vegas coach Bruce Cassidy lauded Hill’s progress and the organization’s role in his development:
I’m happy for Aiden. He’s earned it. I mean, you think about the story that he comes in here two years ago from San Jose and what he’s been able to do for us and himself. so big credit to the organization, and specifically Sean Burke, for the work he’s put in and for identifying that level of talent, what he thought he could be. So, we’re all happy.
Stanley Cup Triumph and future Aspirations
Hill played a crucial role in the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup victory in 2023. After starting the season as the team’s third-string goalie,he took over the starting role during the playoffs, posting an 11-4 record with a 2.17 GAA, a .932 save percentage, and two shutouts in 14 games, ultimately helping Vegas secure the championship against the Florida Panthers in five games.
Reflecting on the Stanley Cup win, Hill shared his motivation for continued success:
I mean, you have the feeling of when you win, so that’s what you’re chasing again. It’s kind of that feeling of being with the guys in the locker room, knowing that you accomplished that together. It’s truly special, and we certainly know in this room we have the experience to do it. … we have a great locker room, so we want to win for each other and I think that just makes us a better team.
Golden Knights’ Current standing
As of today, the Golden Knights hold a 39-19-7 record, placing them frist in the Pacific Division. Adin Hill’s health has been a significant factor in their success this season, especially after he missed 30 games last season due to injury.
Cassidy commented on Hill’s expected workload:
I don’t know exactly how many he’s going to start, but if you map it out, he’s going to be close to 50. We thought at the start of the year 48-ish is 60 percent, is 49 games. We went through that one day. … He hasn’t missed anything other than maintenance days or optionals. so I think that’s important, that it’s not only for yoru games, it’s to keep your game up in practice, right? Days you’re not playing, you’ve got to work on your details. And there’s a lot of little things for goaltenders that that they have to do in between starts, and he’s been able to stick with that as well.
