Himesh Patel Reveals the Songs That Shaped His life

Before embracing indie bands like Arctic Monkeys, Maxïmo Park, and Bloc Party, Himesh Patel’s first single purchase was Rishi Rich Project’s “Dance With You (Nachna Tere Naal),” featuring Jay sean and Juggy D.He bought it from Tesco Extra, recalling it as a significant moment for south Asians in the United kingdom.
Growing up in a Cambridge village, Patel was immersed in BBC Asian Network and Bollywood soundtracks. He fondly remembers “taal Se Taal Mila” from the film “Taal,” with music by A.R.Rahman. patel said the film,a musical,inspired him to learn the dilruba.
While not a frequent karaoke participant, Patel once sang Tenacious D’s “Tribute.” He considers it a fun, lighthearted song, perfect for not taking karaoke too seriously.
Patel also knows all the lyrics to Limp Bizkit’s “Take a Look Around,” featured in “Mission: Unachievable II.” His sister bought it, and he enjoyed their metal rap adaptation of the Mission: Impossible theme.
For Patel, Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” is the ultimate party anthem. He believes it’s impossible not to dance to it.
While his children love “Let It Go” from “Frozen,” leading to overplay, Patel admits he prefers the music from “Frozen II.”
Despite the potential lack of coolness, Patel secretly enjoys Coldplay’s ”Princess of China” featuring Rihanna, calling it a “pretty good pop tune.”
Jamie Woon’s ”Sharpness” is Patel’s pick for a sexy song.
Nitin Sawhney’s “Nadia” profoundly impacted Patel, bridging his British and south Asian identities with its blend of classical Indian vocals and drum and bass. This fusion of musical styles resonated deeply with him, solidifying its place as a life-changing song.
Laura Marling’s “Child of Mine,” a song about parenthood,often makes Patel cry.
Patel would like Dylan Phillips’ “Undercurrents,” a piano piece by the singer of Half Moon Run, to be played at his funeral. He describes it as a lovely piece reflecting a life lived.
