Robot-Assisted Hip Replacement Surgery to be Broadcast Live at Symposium
Seoul – Surgeons will broadcast a live robot-assisted hip replacement surgery at an upcoming symposium, offering a firsthand look at the technology’s precision. The procedure, performed by Dr. Ha Yong-chan at Seoul Bumin Hospital, will be streamed online to attendees of the 4th Robot Artificial Joint Surgery Symposium on May 31.

Precision in Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery demands accuracy as the hip joint connects the leg and pelvic bones. Even slight errors in artificial joint placement can affect the outcome. According to the hospital, the robotic system allows surgeons to achieve sub-millimeter precision, which can be verified throughout the procedure.
Symposium Details
The Korean Orthopedic Computer Surgery Society, led by Chairman Lee Woo-suk, is hosting the symposium at the Yongsan Dragon City in Seoul. The live broadcast from Seoul Bumin Hospital aims to demonstrate the potential for wider adoption of robot-assisted joint replacement.

Expert Presentations
The symposium will feature presentations from both domestic and international experts in artificial joint surgery. This year’s focus is on robot-assisted hip replacement. Speakers including Cynthia Callenberg (HSS Hospital), Ryuichi Sato (Kanagawa rehabilitation Hospital), Hwang Ji-hyo (Hallym University), and Kim Hong-seok (Seoul National University) will discuss clinical cases and current trends.
Other presenters, including Han Hyuk-soo (Seoul National University), Sun Jong-geun (Chonnam National University), lee Sang-hoon (SNU Seoul Hospital), and Yoon Ji-soo (Bumin Hospital), will share essential knowledge for medical professionals in the field.
Global Perspectives on Robotic Surgery
The symposium will also address international trends in robot-assisted surgery. Gung Yoon-bae (Bumin Hospital), Kim Sung-hwan (Chung-Ang University), Niraz Aradkar (Sai Schuri hospital), and Michael Yam Wuyi (Singapore Tan Tok Seng Hospital) will discuss new approaches to knee replacement and surgical trends in the United States, Japan, India, and singapore.

Society’s commitment to Innovation
according to Lee Woo-suk, chairman of the Korean Orthopedic Computer Surgery society, the association is committed to exploring advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and 3D printing, along with robotics and navigation-based surgery. He anticipates the symposium will provide valuable insights into artificial joint surgery and offer opportunities to share surgical expertise through the live broadcast.
Registration Details
The symposium will be held in a hybrid format, both online and in-person.Participants can earn six continuing education credits. Medical residents, students, and nurses can attend for free. Pre-registration is open until May 25. Additional information, including the program schedule, is available on the Bumin Hospital website.
