zamalek Legend Criticizes Departing Coach Gomez, Calls for Egyptian Leadership
Cairo, Egypt – former zamalek star Hisham yaqan has publicly criticized the sudden departure of Portuguese coach Jose Gomez to Saudi Arabia’s al-Fateh team, calling it an act of “greed” and “dishonesty.” Yaqan, speaking on the “Box to Box” program on Etc channel, argued that Gomez’s exit at this crucial juncture is detrimental to the club’s stability and championship aspirations.
Yaqan questioned Gomez’s impact on player progress, stating,”I have not seen from Gomez that he has helped to improve the level of players like Hossam Abdel Majid. He does not help to develop the performance of players.” He further emphasized the need for a strong technical staff comprised of Zamalek alumni who are prepared for such emergencies.
the former Zamalek star also criticized Gomez’s lack of professionalism, highlighting the coach’s failure to provide adequate notice before his departure. “Any coach who wants to leave has to notify the management at least a month before his departure,” Yaqan stated.
Yaqan believes that Zamalek should prioritize Egyptian coaches, citing names like Mohamed salah, Helmi Tolan, and Motamed Gamal as potential candidates. He argued that these coaches possess a deeper understanding of the club’s culture and players, making them better suited to navigate the current crisis.
“The foreign coach needs time to understand the team,” Yaqan explained. “Untill he understands things, three matches will be missed which could lead to the loss of the championship this season.”
Yaqan concluded by urging the club’s president, Hussein Labib, to trust in Zamalek’s own talent pool and appoint an Egyptian coach to lead the team forward.
