Historic Win: Lily Bazemore Claims First NCS Tennis Championship for Humboldt County
Lily Bazemore Wins NCS Tennis Championship
Lily Bazemore, a junior at Northcoast Preparatory Academy, won first place in the NCS Division 2 Championships for high school tennis singles. She made history as the first player from Humboldt County to win this title. Bazemore competed against athletes from Del Norte to San Francisco to secure her championship.
Bazemore shared that the tournament presented a significant mental challenge. She felt the pressure but managed to cope by focusing on each moment. “Staying in the present moment was really important,” she said. She emphasized concentrating on each point instead of thinking too far ahead.
In the championship match, Bazemore achieved a 6-2, 6-0 victory, never allowing more than two points against her throughout the tournament. This victory establishes her as the first NCS Tennis Champion from Humboldt for both boys and girls, singles or doubles, since the tournament began in 1915 for boys and 1977 for girls.
With another year ahead of her, Bazemore and her school anticipate further success next season. Congratulations, Lily!
