History in the Making: Shibata Nogyo and Kashiwazaki Kogyo Break 9-Year Drought, Advance to Quarterfinals in Thrilling Autumn Prefectural Tournament
151st Hokushinetsu High School Baseball Niigata Prefectural Tournament: Second-Round Results
On the 12th, six second-round games were played at three stadiums in the 151st Hokushinetsu High School Baseball Niigata Prefectural Tournament, which will serve as the selection material for deciding which schools will participate in next spring’s Koshien Tournament.
In the first game at Shibata City’s Isokyo Baseball Stadium, Shibata Chuo held on to their early lead and defeated Sado. In the second game, Shibata Noh beat Gosen, and in the autumn and spring, they advanced to the best 16 for the first time since the spring of 2015.
In the first game at Nagaoka City’s Yukyuyama Baseball Stadium, Teikyo Nagaoka, this summer’s runner-up, fended off a counterattack from Niigata Kenou Kogyo. In the second game, Kashiwazaki Kogyo took the lead in the middle of the game and defeated Takada, and advanced to the best 16 for the first time since the fall of 2015.
At Kashiwazaki City’s Satoike Baseball Stadium, Muikamachi and Itoigawa won by a shutout and advanced to the third round. Two games at Sanjo Pearl Metal Stadium were canceled due to rain and postponed to the 13th.
