History in the Making: Welsh Parliament Set to Introduce Groundbreaking Constitutional Amendment
Government Calls Emergency Meeting of Parliament Amid Legislative Push
The government has convened a meeting of both houses of parliament, sparking speculation among political analysts that significant legislation may be passed. Despite Saturday being a holiday in the federal capital Islamabad and federal institutions, the National Assembly and Senate have been summoned to meet.
The government appears to be in a state of legislative urgency, introducing numerous bills in the current session of the National Assembly and Senate. A key piece of legislation is the bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court.
According to political experts, the meeting on Saturday aims to approve crucial laws. However, the Law Minister has clarified that the government does not intend to introduce any constitutional amendments.
In anticipation of significant legislative developments, the Secretariat of the Senate has issued a notice for the meeting, instructing Senate offices to open at 11 am on Saturday.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the opposition’s main leader, has expressed his disapproval of any attempts to extend the legislative process.
The ruling coalition lacks the two-thirds majority required for major constitutional amendments. If the government seeks to pass legislation, it remains to be seen how they will navigate the numbers game.
