Hitchins: ADHD Diagnosis – A Fake Pandemic?
Table of Contents
It is indeed now 111 years as the British Empire embarked on a path of self-destruction by entering the First World War - a conflict as senseless as it was devastating. The echoes of that folly resonate today, not just in historical memory, but in the unfolding tragedy of Ukraine and the growing disillusionment with institutions meant to protect us.
The Unpaid Debt of a Lost Generation
The scale of the loss in the Great War was unimaginable. Hundreds of thousands of our best men, from all walks of life, perished before they had the chance to build families and contribute to the future. This demographic catastrophe wasn’t merely a human tragedy; it fundamentally weakened the nation.
But the cost wasn’t solely measured in lives. Within 18 months, Britain, once rich and solvent, found itself drowning in debt. This culminated in the shameful default on our enormous world war One debt to the United States in 1934 - a debt we have never repaid. (anyone who doubts this is welcome to wager £100 with me on its veracity. I assure you,I will gladly accept.)
Our naval supremacy, the bedrock of our global influence, crumbled. World standing plummeted. Even within months of the warS commencement, manny clear-sighted individuals recognized it as a disastrous undertaking, yet found themselves powerless to halt its momentum. The problem lay with leaders – like Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm II – who had stoked the flames of patriotic fervor to such an extent that compromise became impossible. They prioritized nationalistic sentiment over rational calculation, leading Europe, and ultimately the world, into a maelstrom of violence.
ukraine: History Repeating Itself?
A disturbingly similar pattern is unfolding in Ukraine. A commitment to facts and reasoned analysis is increasingly unwelcome. Instead, sentiment and propaganda dominate the narrative. The result, I fear, will be a continuation of death and destruction, and the expansion of graveyards across a ravaged landscape. The lessons of 1914 - the dangers of unchecked nationalism, the futility of escalating conflicts, and the importance of diplomatic solutions – appear to have been tragically forgotten. We are witnessing a situation were objective truth is sacrificed at the altar of political expediency, with potentially catastrophic consequences.
The Crisis of Policing: When absence Breeds Discontent
but the erosion of trust isn’t confined to foreign policy. closer to home, patience with our police force has reached a breaking point. In Bournemouth last week, residents, frustrated by escalating disorder and a perceived lack of law enforcement, took matters into their own hands, supporting a private patrol body – the ’Safeguard Force’ – to fill the void. While I know little about the specifics of this organization, it highlights a growing and deeply concerning trend. For too long, we have tolerated a police force that is simultaneously ineffective in addressing genuine crime and overzealous in pursuing individuals for expressing unpopular opinions. This isn’t policing; it’s political correctness masquerading as law enforcement.
Imagine the public outcry if schools ceased to educate, bus companies abandoned their routes, or fire brigades ignored emergencies. These institutions would be rightfully dismantled and replaced with ones that fulfill their core functions. It’s time we applied the same logic to our police forces.
A serious government would promptly prioritize the training of new, properly equipped, and locally focused police forces – modeled on the effective systems of the past. once these forces are operational, the bloated, inefficient, and demonstrably hostile organizations currently in place should be disbanded. They have proven themselves incapable of protecting us, and their actions suggest a distinct disdain for the citizens they are sworn to serve.Let these so-called ‘police’ forces attempt to secure crowdfunding for their activities. The results will speak volumes about the level of public confidence – or lack thereof – they currently enjoy. The time for polite tolerance is over. We deserve a police force that prioritizes safety, upholds the law, and respects the fundamental freedoms of its citizens.
