Agent 47’s Trilogy Lands on Switch 2 with Caveats
Updated June 08, 2025
Agent 47’s deadly escapades in disguise have arrived on Nintendo’s newest console with “Hitman: World of Assassination – Signature Edition.” This thorough package delivers the complete campaigns for “Hitman” (2016), “Hitman 2” (2018), and “Hitman 3” (2021). Players gain access to Contracts mode, Escalation, Elusive Target arcades, the Freelancer mode, Sniper Assassin mode, featured live content, and content from both the Hitman 2 Expansion Pack and Hitman 3 deluxe Pack.
Cosmetics, locations like Haven Island and The Bank, and side missions such as the Seven Deadly Sins and Special Assignments campaigns are also included. However, three Elusive Target arcade contracts–replication, The base, and The Oroborous–and the Sarajevo Six bonus contracts are not part of the initial package. these can be purchased on the Nintendo eShop for $5 each.

While the Signature Edition runs natively on the Switch 2, unlike the cloud-streaming version of ”Hitman 3″ on the original Switch, it falls short of other versions in performance. The game looks good both docked and in handheld mode, rendering at a reported 1080p when docked and 720p in handheld mode. However, some detail is lost compared to other platforms, and occasional shimmering appears on certain objects.
The switch 2’s HDR implementation also presents issues in handheld mode, resulting in an overly luminous image. Fortunately, this can be disabled in the system settings.

Performance is inconsistent, utilizing an uncapped 60fps that fluctuates depending on the on-screen action. while the frame rate can reach it’s upper limits in small rooms, it varies substantially elsewhere. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) in handheld mode helps smooth out the frame rate, but playing on a TV can feel unpleasant due to the inconsistency. Graphics settings are not adjustable.
The Signature Edition’s always-online requirement is a meaningful drawback. While this restriction has been in place since 2016, it limits the benefits of the Switch 2’s portability. Playing offline severely restricts progression, rewards, challenges, and level mastery.

Due to these performance and online issues, recommending “Hitman: World of Assassination – Signature Edition” is difficult. Other versions of the game are often cheaper and perform better on both TVs/monitors and handheld devices like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. While the Switch 2 port is playable, the overall experience is compromised.
What’s next
IO Interactive may address some of the performance issues with future patches. Though, the always-online requirement is unlikely to change.
