HMD to Enter Smartwatch Market with Wear OS Devices, Camera-Equipped Model

HMD, the company known for ⁤releasing Nokia-branded phones, is reportedly expanding into the smartwatch market. According to⁢ reports, the company is developing‌ two new ⁤smartwatches, both⁤ of which will run ⁣on google’s Wear OS.Notably, one of the models is rumored to include a built-in camera, a feature not commonly found in Wear OS devices.

The leak, initially shared ‌by tipster @smashx_60,suggests HMD’s entry into ‌the smartwatch arena is a logical ‍step, given its existing portfolio ‌of phones, tablets, and accessories. While the data remains unconfirmed, the move aligns with HMD’s strategy of diversifying its product offerings.

Reportedly,the first model,dubbed the HMD Rubber ⁢1,will feature ‍a 1.85-inch OLED display, a⁤ 400 mAh battery, and ⁢standard health-tracking features such ⁣as heart ‍rate and SpO2 ⁢monitoring. The standout feature, however, is the inclusion ⁤of a 2-megapixel camera.

The second model, the ‍HMD Rubber 1S, is expected ⁣to be a more budget-kind option. it will have a smaller 1.07-inch OLED display and⁤ a 290 mAh battery. While it retains the heart rate and SpO2 tracking capabilities, it ⁢will not include a camera.

⁤ ‌ The camera on⁢ the HMD‌ Rubber 1 ‌is⁣ engaging, as this would be something we haven’t seen on a Wear ‍OS watch before.

The inclusion of a ⁤camera ‍on the⁤ HMD Rubber 1 raises questions⁣ about its intended use. It ‍is speculated that ⁣it would ⁢allow users to⁤ capture photos and videos directly from‍ their wrist, possibly without needing a connected smartphone. Some reports suggest that HMD may be targeting the‌ smartwatch towards children, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Watch⁣ for ⁢Kids.

Both smartwatches ⁣are expected to feature 5 ATM waterproofing, providing protection up to 50 meters. This suggests a ⁢durable design suitable for various activities.

What’s next

HMD has yet to officially announce these smartwatches. ⁤The tech world awaits further⁤ details ⁢as well ⁢as the release of⁢ Wear OS 6 in the coming months.
