Defense attorney Maximiliano De Mira filed a four-page written petition to the prosecution arguing that the alleged offenses are legally time-barred.

Details of the Arrest in Mar del Plata
Asensio was taken into custody one week ago at his residence located in the Peralta Ramos forest area of Mar del Plata. At the time of his arrest, the former municipal official from Monte Hermoso was actively coaching Sporting, a field hockey club based in Mar del Plata. The investigation links Asensio to between two and three separate allegations of sexual abuse committed against minor female hockey players in Monte Hermoso. Authorities note that the reported incidents allegedly occurred more than a decade ago, dating back over ten years.
Next Steps in the Judicial Process
Following the defense filing, the prosecution formally opposed the request for dismissal and release. Because of this opposition, the case file was transferred to Guarantee Judge Marisa Promé, who holds the responsibility of evaluating the arguments from both sides. Judge Promé must now issue a formal ruling determining Asensio’s procedural status and deciding whether to grant the defense request for overseimiento, or total dismissal of the case, alongside his release from custody.
