The search for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues to draw support from across the media landscape, with former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb returning to the show on Friday, February 6, 2026, to express her love and solidarity with her friend.
Kotb, who stepped down from her anchor chair a little over a year ago, appeared on Today to share a segment highlighting the nationwide outpouring of support for the Guthrie family as they pray for Nancy’s safe return. Police believe Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home near Tucson, Arizona, against her will on February 1, and are investigating the case as a kidnapping.
Speaking with co-anchors Craig Melvin, Carson Daly, and Sheinelle Jones, Kotb acknowledged the helplessness she and many others feel amid the uncertainty. “I think there’s like this helpless feeling. I mean, we’re all so close with her and we all want to help her,” she said.
Kotb’s appearance underscored the deep bonds forged during her seven years alongside Guthrie as co-anchors of Today. She recounted instances where Guthrie was the first to offer support during difficult times for her colleagues, recalling Guthrie’s presence during her daughter Hope’s illness. “I’m looking at us and I was thinking, ‘Who was first in the hospital room when (my daughter) Hope was sick?’ Savannah,” Kotb said.
The sentiment was echoed by Daly, who remembered Guthrie being the first to offer support when he lost both his mother and stepfather in 2017. “Oh, my gosh, first person,” he replied when asked who had reached out.
Sheinelle Jones also recalled Guthrie’s unwavering support during the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh. And Craig Melvin shared that Guthrie was also there for him when his brother passed away. “Savannah,” he confirmed.
Kotb reflected on the qualities of love and patience, stating, “They say love is patient, love is kind — we’ll be patient and put prayers up.”
The support for the Guthrie family extends beyond the Today show. Maria Shriver posted a message of love on Instagram, writing, “This story continues to be without any answers, but what is without a doubt is the family’s love for their mama.” Other news figures, including CBS’s Gayle King, ABC’s David Muir, actress Jennifer Garner, and Olympian Lindsey Vonn, have also expressed their support.
As the investigation continues, the Guthrie family remains hopeful for Nancy’s safe return, buoyed by the widespread support and prayers from friends, colleagues, and the public.
