updated June 11, 2025
Keely Hodgkinson, the reigning Olympic 800m champion, has pulled out of the Stockholm Diamond League event scheduled for Sunday. A setback in her recovery from a hamstring injury prompted the withdrawal.
Hodgkinson, 23, had to cancel her own athletics event, the Keely Klassic, in February due to the hamstring tear. The Stockholm meet was slated to be her first competition of 2025.
The 800m race in Sweden would have featured a showdown between Hodgkinson and her Olympic rivals Tsige Duguma of Ethiopia and Mary Moraa of Kenya, who secured silver and bronze, respectively, in Paris.
The setback prolongs Hodgkinson’s return after the hamstring issue prematurely ended her indoor season. The olympic champion, also an MBE recipient, clocked a remarkable 1 minute,56.72 seconds to win 800m gold in Paris last summer, solidifying her status as a top track and field athlete.
While no firm date has been set for Hodgkinson’s return to competition, she hopes to participate in the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
What’s next
Hodgkinson will focus on her rehabilitation with the goal of competing at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
