Record-Breaking Travel Volume
Saturday marked one of the busiest travel days of the 2025 holiday season, with an estimated 122.4 million people traveling by road, rail, and air. This surge comes as millions head home for Christmas and other year-end gatherings.
Airport conditions and Delays
Despite earlier inclement whether in the Tri-State area, flight operations at LaGuardia, Kennedy, and Newark Airports were generally running smoothly as of Saturday morning. However, some travelers experienced delays. One student reported a flight delayed twice since 10:00 PM Friday night, according to News 4.
Long lines were observed at LaGuardia’s Terminal B, with check-in and baggage drop-off wait times reaching up to 20 minutes. Travelers emphasized the importance of readiness to mitigate the impact of these delays.
Air and Road Travel statistics
Approximately eight million people are expected to take domestic flights this weekend. Airlines consistently advise passengers to arrive at the airport well in advance of their scheduled departure time.
AAA projects that 109 million Americans will travel by car, a 2% increase over the previous year and potentially setting a new travel record. Lower gas prices, with a national average around $3.00 per gallon, are contributing to the increase in road travel, according to AAA’s latest report.
