Hollow Knight Silksong Sales: Free Extension in 2026
Launched after six years in development, “Hollow Knight: Silksong” had a particularly impressive launch as the studio looks to the future.
The year 2025 is coming to an end and with it a significant number of video games to enjoy. One of them is none other than Hollow Knight: Silksong, true Arlesian of the independent scenewhich finally saw the light of day in September 2025.
Designed by the small Australian studio Team Cherry, the title is none other than the sequel to Hollow Knightwith the difference that this time we play Hornet, a heroine that we already met in the first episode. The players were obviously waiting for it a lot because after six years of development and a surprise launchthe game has sold more than 7 million copies on PC, Nintendo Switch (1&2), Playstation 5 and Xbox Series, according to the studio.
A free extension for 2026
A particularly important milestone that Team Cherry wanted to celebrate in a publication on its website recalling that the release crashed most serversfrom Steam to the Playstation Store, via the Nintendo eShop.
To these 7 million buyers are added “millions of players” from Game Pass, Microsoft’s subscription gaming service, in which the game has been present since its first day.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all the players who braved the distant and dangerous lands of Silksong,” said Team Cherry. “It’s a staggering number of players, more than we could have expected.”
To celebrate this major milestone, Hollow Knight: Silksong will offer its first extension – completely free – called Sea of Sorrow (“The Sea of Sorrows”). The studio promises new bosses and tools to master, while new areas to explore will take place in a nautical universe. Other details will be revealed in the future, but a first trailer still gives some clues on what to expect.
At the same time, Team Cherry has not forgotten the players of the first Hollow Knight. The Switch version will thus offer a free update for the Switch 2 in 2026, with a 120 frames per second mode and better resolution. On other platforms, a patch has just appeared and notably brings support for new formats, including 16:10 and 21:9 – perfect for the Steam Deck or ultra-wide screens.
And if that wasn’t enough, figurines have just been revealed. They feature the cast of characters seen in Silksong, including the adorable fleas, as well as Sherma. They are available at fan gamerfor 18 euros each.
If it didn’t win the title of “game of the year” at the last Game Awards, Hollow Knight: Silksong still received a nice award, that of best action-adventure game of 2025.
