Holly Holm Returns to Boxing Ring with most Valuable Promotions
Updated May 14, 2025
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is making a surprising return to boxing, joining Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) after more than a decade away from the sport. The 43-year-old Holm will face undefeated Yolanda Vega in a 10-round lightweight bout on June 28, as part of the undercard for Paul’s fight against Julio cesar chavez jr.
Holm, who hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2013 after a accomplished boxing career. She had a 33-2-3 record with world titles in three weight classes. Her MMA career peaked with a stunning knockout victory over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in 2015.
After a 15-7 record in MMA, Holm requested her release from the UFC following a loss to Kayla Harrison in April 2024. She cited the improved exposure and financial opportunities in women’s boxing as a key factor in her decision to return to the ring. This marks a significant move in her combat sports journey, as she seeks to add another chapter to her already notable legacy in boxing and MMA.
“I’m excited to partner with Most Valuable Promotions and return to the boxing ring,” Holm said. ”This new chapter is going to be an exciting journey, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, praised Holm’s accomplishments in both boxing and MMA. “Holly Holm is the most dominant two-sport athlete in history — period,” Bidarian said. “Her accomplishments in both boxing and MMA are unmatched, and we’re honored to welcome her to Most Valuable Promotions.”
Vega, fighting out of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, has a 10-0 record with one knockout. She has been relatively inactive but has fought four times in the past year. Vega expressed respect for Holm but asserted her determination to achieve her own world championship aspirations.
“Fighting against a champion of this stature on Saturday, June 28, brings me closer to my aim of becoming a world champion,” Vega said.
Holm, inducted into the International Boxing Hall of fame in 2022, aims to secure another title before retiring.
“Coming full circle back to boxing, I’ve spent most of my MMA career at 135 pounds, and now I have the opportunity to make my boxing debut at that weight,” she said. “With boxing titles in three higher weight classes under my belt, I’m eager to pursue a fourth title in a new division.”
