HOLYOKE, Mass. — Holyoke Medical Center (HMC) has received the Joint Commission’s Health Care Equity Certification, recognizing its dedication to equitable care and the reduction of health disparities. The certification followed a comprehensive review of HMC’s structures and processes.
The Joint Commission conducted an on-site review May 13, evaluating HMC’s compliance with standards in leadership, collaboration, data collection, care provision, and performance betterment.
Spiros Hatiras, president and CEO of Holyoke Medical Center and Valley Health Systems, expressed pride in the recognition. He saeid the certification reflects the team’s commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all patients, emphasizing the hospital’s role in the community.
Avadhoot Gokhale, senior vice president and chief quality officer, noted HMC’s long-standing commitment to equitable health care.He cited a strategic plan addressing community needs, including transportation, access to food and insurance, and workforce growth, all aimed at promoting health equity.
HMC is also expanding data collection and screening tools to better understand its patient population. This data will inform improvements in patient care,treatment protocols,and targeted education,further enhancing its equity certification efforts.
