Homan vs Hasselborg: Epic Showdown in KIOTI National Women’s Curling Final
Rachel Homan and Anna Hasselborg Face Off for KIOTI National Women’s Championship
Rachel Homan from Canada and Anna Hasselborg from Sweden are longtime competitors. This Sunday, they will meet for the 28th time in women’s curling. Both teams enter the final with perfect 6-0 records at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Homan’s path to the final was challenging. In the quarterfinals, she narrowly defeated Japan’s Team Sayaka Yoshimura, winning 7-6 in extra ends. In the semifinals, she faced South Korea’s Team Eun-jung Kim and won 7-6 again, showcasing her team’s resilience and skill.
Homan noted, “It kind of feels like we’ve got nine lives out there.” Despite some early struggles with the rocks, her team’s sweeping and shot-making proved crucial in both playoff matches.
Hasselborg also reached the final with impressive performances. Her team needed overtime to beat Team Christina Black 7-6 in the quarterfinals before achieving a dominating 7-1 victory over Team Kerri Einarson in the semifinals. Hasselborg expressed pride in her team’s recent play, emphasizing their success after a time away from finals.
This final marks Hasselborg’s first Grand Slam final since 2022 and her quest to regain momentum after a silver medal at the European Championships. For Homan, this will be her sixth final in seven events, continuing her team’s strong season.
Men’s Championship Preview
In the men’s championship, Scotland’s Team Bruce Mouat will compete to secure a third straight Grand Slam title. They have a 5-1 record and defeated Team John Shuster in the quarterfinals and Canada’s Team Mike McEwen in the semifinals.
