Honda Recalls 259,000 Vehicles Due to Brake Defect
Updated Jan. 27, 2025
Honda is recalling approximately 259,000 Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential defect in the brake pedal assembly, the automaker announced Wednesday. The recall impacts certain Honda Pilot SUVs (2023-2025),Acura MDX SUVs (2023-2025),and Acura TLX sedans (2021-2025).
The issue involves pivot pins within the brake pedal assembly that may not have been properly “staked” during production, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This coudl allow the brake pedal to shift out of position.
According to Honda, a displaced brake pedal could lead to several problems. Drivers might experience an unusual brake pedal feel, and the brake malfunction indicator light could illuminate. In some cases, the vehicle’s brake lights might remain on even when the pedal is not engaged. The primary concern is that the defect could compromise a driver’s ability to slow or stop the vehicle safely.
The automaker said the recall is a precautionary measure, and there have been no reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters by late July, Honda said. The letters will instruct them to bring their vehicles to a local dealership for inspection. If the inspection reveals an issue, the dealer will replace the brake pedal assembly at no cost to the owner.
Honda introduced the Acura brand nearly four decades ago. In 2024, American Honda reported sales of more than 132,300 Acura and 1.291 million Honda vehicles in the U.S.
what’s next
