Challenges in the Vote Count
The vote counting process has been slow and fraught with challenges. Of the 19,152 total minutes (official records of precinct-level results), 16,858 have been processed. Though, 2,407 minutes present “inconsistencies” requiring a vote-by-vote recount. An additional 2,571 minutes are still awaiting entry into the CNE’s computing center.
These inconsistencies raise concerns about the integrity of the election and have fueled claims of potential fraud from both sides. the CNE has pledged to address these issues transparently and ensure a fair outcome.
Statements from the Candidates
Nasry Asfura has called for “serenity” and respect for the process, urging his supporters to remain calm while the recount is underway. He expressed confidence that the final results will confirm his victory.
Salvador Nasralla, on the other hand, has alleged irregularities and hinted at potential manipulation of the vote. He has demanded a thorough examination into the discrepancies and vowed to challenge the results if necessary.
